WILL PAKISTAN SURVIVE THIS TIME?

WILL PAKISTAN SURVIVE?
By Dr.Khurshid Alam khurshidalam44@hotmail.com. Dated 3/8/11
Pakistan is a critically sick country and struggling for survival. The outcome is grave unless improved otherwise. A sick country can only have a sick government. The present government might have worsened the situation but the root causes lies in the genesis of the country.
It was a premature sick baby delivered by C-section by an English surgeon and Indian Midwife. Extensive Ante Natal and Post Natal bleeding accompanied the delivery.
Jinnah was an intelligent Barrister. As lawyer, this is an ample proof of his intelligence that he made a big case out of nothing and won it.
It will be barefaced misinterpretation of history that he was democratic by nature. Alas, time did not give him the chance to prove those people wrong who claim incorrect about him. None of his companions had democratic mentality.
Institution based politics are carried out by collective leadership and there is inbuilt mechanism of accountability. This system never suited their nature and mental make up and made it sure that the events does not take that course. Most of them were immigrant had no constituencies and some were were civil servants.
Civil servants, military dictators and opportunists successively rapped the country to achieve their personal ends. The successive regimens made the situation worse.
At present the country is suffering from multi organs failure. To enumerate them on priority they are as follows:
- Failed economy, none has a vision or sense of direction.
- Non-existence of institutional politics and lack of a system.
- Instead of solving the basic issues the rulers adopted an attitude to refuse their existence in spite repeated international warnings, resulting in loss of international credibility.
- Pakistan is considered a conduit not a country.
- There was not a single visionary leader. The visionary leaders do not grow like mushroom everywhere they need certain favorable climate like fight for liberation followed by a sound political process. Unfortunately nether was there.
- Pakistan was a proclaimed state has their own anomalies.
- Lack of ACCOUNTABILITY was the biggest cause of the present state of affairs.
- Political process is yet to be started still intrigues and political score is the order of the day.
- White wash have replaced punishment. The criminals are an integral part of the nucleus of power and corruption has assumed strength with unbounded authority. The system is tailored to replace one group of thieves by another
- The absence of punishment is directly related to the level of corruption; nowhere a corrupt can punish a criminal. This relation of the two “C” is centuries old. Lack of tolerance and civility has the same reasons, absence of institutions and political process.
- The political culture has to be given time to establish even if it is corrupt. The process will evolve a cadre.
- Yes I do agree with the analysis of one of the economical analyst that the government should not be an employer but should act like machinery that creates job opportunities.
- He argued when state becomes an employer the floodgates of corruption and nepotism are left open and experts are replaced by favorites.
- The electoral system is the most corrupt. It has no match. It has disfranchised 95% of population and has been tailored only for Asfrafia and moneyed people. The moneyed people are exempted to be investigated about the means of acquired wealth. There is no limit on electoral expenses the more one spends the higher is the return.
- Zia added to the corrupt system by allocating personal fund to each elected member to run their own local government and use those funds for investment for the next round.
- Musharraf devolved corruption right to the roots of the society but retained power and by doing so eroded the basic concept of provincial autonomy?
- Corrupt system can only send corrupt to the parliament and all five pillars of the state are standing in the filth of corruption.
- The disharmony between the pillars is about the share in the bounty, not to change the fate of a common man.
- I see no future for young vibrant middle and lower class to emerge in the prevailing system. Unless the present electoral system is totally changed and those political parties having no intra Party electoral system in their respective organization should be banned to take part in the elections.
- The total divorce of executive from legislative is a must.

This cleansing operation should start from the top and carried to the toe. This is the only process that should start in reverse order. This exception exists in the nature as well like river Nile flows from South to North.
Though the present leadership is not meant to start the process but we cannot import leadership like Musharraf did. We are reaping the harvest of that re known economic expert Prime Minister today. It is probably the only country ruled by foreign citizen, physically and disabled citizens.
The above is an idea how to run a fair government to complete the definition of democracy that is a government by the people; it should be of the people and for the people. We in Pakistan only believe in the first and forget the other two criterions. It is contradictions working in disharmony.
There is some genetic problem in its creation that must be addressed.
- We must accept that it a multi national state and we are all citizens of Pakistan.
- Every nation has its own rights enshrined in Pakistan resolution and needs a little bit adjustment of inter-states borders to bring it more near to natural boundaries.
- We must get rid Ideology of Pakistan. It is eating up the roots of federation and is the deadly virus for Democracy. Pakistan was created as separate homeland for Muslims to live according to their wish. Neither the founder knew much about Islam nor he intended to create a theocratic state.
- In the united India it was not possible for Jinnah, Liaquat Ali and Khaliquz- Zaman to match politically with Gandhi. Nehru and Patel, Sehgal, Adam Jee was no match to Tata and Birla on economic front. It was to create a protected and safe market for both species.
- We must give up Big Brother concept and the Idea that Visionaries grow in Punjab and Karachi. If erupts outside the specified areas should face gallows.
If we fail to adjust our minds to historical realities we are doom as a state. Better not adjust our mind because the fault lies in the reality.
We are in a thick soup because of chasing the shadows of ideological Borders. This insanity has put the survival of the state at stake.
Our army is fighting an enemy that is nowhere but everywhere, not visible but present, their mind in uniform but not body, their GHQ is the house of every fundamentalist and leaguers of all alphabetic.
Like veto has made the UNO an impotent organization so has the ideology of Pakistan, easy to be misused like Veto.
In a federal set up the Parliament is the most important institution made of treasury and opposition benches. Our parliament is unique in the sense that it has no opposition with alternate program.
Those anchors who are involved in political assassination failed to compare Jinnah with Gandhi, Liaquat with Nehru, Ayub with Shastri, Bhutto with Indhra, Mian Sb. With Mr. Singh.
Mian Sb. Stunned President Clinton by his watch and gold studs when he went to beg for aid and was made to wait in corridor for 30 minutes.
Hina Rabbani is under fire by Geo, ARY and Aaj for the crime committed by every one but she is being punished as if she is the first one to do.
The ex law minister is talking of presidential of government and is so amnesic that it was presidential system to break Pakistan. To be honest it is not the system that counts but people on the helm of affairs. Socialism has still its role to play but the socialist failed miserably; instead of a classless society they produced their own class, the privileged party members and Asfrafia of the socialist system.

  1. a very good article. Pashtuns should free themselves from dirty Punjabi colonial rule. Pashtuns will never see a good day unless they put an end to this cancer that British Raj carved it from India. Jinnah Punja was a Gujarati Hindu and a Kafir himself. He was the agent of the British Raj. Lets let everyone know that Pashtuns must be awaken or die in the 21st century.

  2. What a biased article. Looks like the writer is acting a proxy due some malicious reasons. The ideology of Pakistan is its foundation. I can see why you are attacking it. I wish the writer had known more about Jinnah before commenting.
